Ο Αθανάσιος Μαρβάκης, Ψυχολόγος (Dipl.-Psych., Dr. rer. soc., Πανεπιστήμιο Tübingen/Γερμανία), είναι Καθηγητής Κλινικής Κοινωνικής Ψυχολογίας στο Παιδαγωγικό Τμήμα Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης.
Από το 1990 εργάστηκε ως ερευνητής και ως καθηγητής, παρουσίασε προσκεκλημένες ομιλίες σε πανεπιστήμια στη Γερμανία, Ελλάδα, Λεττονία, Κάτω Χώρες, Κροατία, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, Τουρκία, Λουξεμβούργο, Κίνα, Καναδά, Μεξικό, Δανία, Νότια Αφρική, Αυστρία, Βραζιλία, Χιλή.
Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στους νέους ως κοινωνική ομάδα και τα προβλήματά της, στις σχέσεις της ψυχολογίας με τις διαφορές μορφές κοινωνικής ανισότητας και κοινωνικού αποκλεισμού (π.χ. ρατσισμός, εθνικισμός πολυπολιτισμικότητα), στην αλληλεγγύη ως θεωρητικό και πρακτικό ζήτημα και εργαλείο των κοινωνικών επιστημών, στην κριτική ψυχολογία της μάθησης και του σχολείου και τη νεοφιλελευθεριοποίηση των κοινωνικών επιστημών και των αντικειμένων τους.
