Ο Αριστοτέλης Ζμας είναι επίκουρος καθηγητής στο γνωστικό αντικείμενο «Συγκριτική Παιδαγωγική» στο Παιδαγωγικό Τμήμα Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης του Α.Π.Θ. Είναι απόφοιτος του ίδιου Πανεπιστημίου (Τμήμα Φιλοσοφίας – Παιδαγωγικής – Ψυχολογίας) και κάτοχος διδακτορικού διπλώματος από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Βόννης. Προηγουμένως είχε εργαστεί ως επίκουρος καθηγητής στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου και ως ειδικός επιστήμονας σε διάφορα Πανεπιστήμια σε Ελλάδα και Κύπρο. Διατελεί, επίσης, σήμερα γραμματέας της Συγκριτικής Παιδαγωγικής Εταιρείας της Ευρώπης (Comparative Education Society in Europe).
Έχει συμμετάσχει σε ευρωπαϊκά προγράμματα περί εκπαιδευτικής διακυβέρνησης και διοίκησης.
Τα επιστημονικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται σε ζητήματα συγκριτικής παιδαγωγικής, διεθνούς εκπαίδευσης, εκπαιδευτικής διακυβέρνησης και ευρωπαϊκής εκπαιδευτικής πολιτικής.
