Dimitris Zachos was born and raised in Nigrita – Serres Greece. He studied at the Pedagogical Academy of Heraklion (Creta) and at the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he finished his doctoral thesis.
He has worked for many years as a teacher in primary education. He also worked as principal of the 77th Primary School of Thessaloniki and as a School Counselor in Serres. In Higher Education he firstly taught at postgraduate training school of teachers “Dimitris Glinos” of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (from 2005 to 2012), at the Department of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia (from 2007 to 2009) and at the Department of Primary Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (from 2010 to 2011). In February 2011 he was appointed a lecturer at the School of Primary Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where in June 2015 he was elected as assistant professor and in February 2019 he received tenure.
He is a member of the International Association for Intercultural Education, Children’s Identity & Citizenship European Association, and the Pedagogical Society of Greece. He is also a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Journal of Education, the Journal of Education, of Neos Pedagogos and EducatioNext.
His research activity, his publications and his announcements at conferences, workshops and seminars, as well as the student’s works he supervises aim to issues of pedagogy. These issues are explored in the light of economics, social, political, ideological developments.
Dimitris’ non-campus activities concern members of education professionals (when h participate in workshops and training programs), as well as people of varied interests (when he gives lectures at open universities, he writes articles in newspapers, popular magazines and websites and participate in television and radio programs).
His scientific interests are currently focused on: a) Equity & social justice in education b) Democracy in school and in the classroom and c) Methods in educational research.
